Boys Team Rankings: Week of 1.28.09

Class A

1. Arthur Hill 11-1
Pookie Jones is playing on another level right now and his teammates are responding…only loss is to rival Saginaw by 2 points.

2. Detroit Pershing 11-1
Keith Appling and company are beatable,  now let’s see how they respond.

3. Detroit Southeastern 11-2
The Jungaleers avenged an early season loss by handing Pershing their lone loss.

4. Clarkston 8-0
#1 on most other rankings but Clarkston just hasn’t shown me they are worthy of the #1 spot in the two times I’ve seen them.

5. K-Zoo Central 7-1
Only blemish on record is to Country Day, so we can over look that loss.

6. Detroit Finney 8-3
Coach Reeves claims they’ll win out in the PSL now that Isiah Sykes is playing…a rematch with Pershing is in the waiting.

7. Detroit Henry Ford 11-1
The Henry Ford train continues to roll even without star Karriem Baker.

8. Lansing Eastern 8-1
We all know what LaDonte “Buckets” Henton can do but Rico Stewart has taken Eastern to the next level.

9. Hartland 9-1
Vonn Jones and Matt Poches have been phenomenal for the Eagles thus far, but their bench worries me.

10. Rockford  9-1
After a season opening
loss to Muskegon Heights, the Rams have won nine straight.

Hanging around: Okemos, Wayland, Saginaw, Grosse Point North, Detroit C.C.

Class B

1. Country Day 12-0
I wonder just how many college teams in the state would loose to Country Day.

2. Zeeland East 11-0

3. Flint Powers 9-2
Despite the loss to Country Day, the Chargers proved they belong on the same court.

4. Muskegon Heights 10-2

5. Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard 7-2

6. Inkster 11-1
A win over Wyandotte keeps Inkster in 1st place of MEGA-white.

7. Goodrich 9-1
Wins over Grand Blanc, Hamady, and Northwestern this week…but can the Martians stay on top without Joe Boisture, who now calls Saline home?

8. Cadillac 9-2
Both losses come to two Class A Saginaw Valley teams- Midland Dow and Mt. Pleasant.

9. Bridgeport 9-0

10. Lansing Sexton 6-3
Got a late start while they waited for Drew Valentine to return but now the Big Reds are looking good.

Class C

1. K-Zoo Christian 9-0

Impressive wins this week over Consortium and Buena Vista

5. Detroit Consortium 8-3

6. Napoleon 9-0
Knocked off rival Hanover-Horton to stay perfect

7. Detroit Loyola 8-2

8. Pewamo-Westphalia 8-0

9. Buena Vista 6-3
Dedo Jackson continues to lead the way while sophomores George Goodman and Derrick Washington are growing up fast but a double digit loss to Melvindale AB&T hurts.

10. Hanover-Horton 8-2
Despite a 6 point loss to Napoleon the Comets are still a top 10 team.

Hanging around: Albion, Flint Beecher, Saugatuck, Flint Hamady, Detroit City

Class D

1. Wyoming tri-Unity Christian 9-0
Veteran- Jared Mysliwiec has his team playing March basketball in January.

2. S.H. Parkway Christian 8-0
Parkway is proving that Zurlon Tipton is not a one man show!

3. Muskegon C.C. 6-3
Three losses but to solid programs in Muskegon Heights, Muskegon, and Tri-Unity Christian.

4. Cedarville 9-0

5. Lawrence 11-0
Handed Class C Saugatuck their first loss- 55-47

6. B.C. St. Philip 9-1

7. New Lothrop 7-2
A win over Class C rival, Flint Hamady, on Saturday and the Hornets could buzz up the ranks.

8. Ellsworth 9-0

9. Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart 7-3
After a 6-0 start the Irish have struggled by losing three of their last four…however losses to T.C. St. Francis, undefeated Class B Shepherd, and New Lothrop are respectable.
